Miami Robotic Surgery is part of the Comprehensive Urologic Surgery Institute dedicated to providing patients with cutting edge robotic technology and techniques for the treatment of various urologic ailments. As Director of Miami Robotic Surgery, Dr. Shirin Razdan is closely involved in the diagnosis, treatment plan, and surgery of all her patients. The current robotic arsenal includes the da Vinci Xi, da Vinci DV5, and da Vinci Single Port (SP) robots.
Some of the robotic procedures offered at Miami Robotic Surgery are listed below.
For patients with newly diagnosed kidney tumors, robotic partial nephrectomy allows surgical removal of the tumor while preserving the remainder of the kidney. RAPN can be performed through the abdomen or through the back depending on patient factors and tumor location.
Larger kidney tumors often necessitates removal of the entire kidney in a procedure known as a radical nephrectomy. Robotic nephrectomy can also be done for nonfunctioning kidneys that are otherwise causing pain or infections.
Some individuals are born with an obstruction in the top part of the ureter, known as the ureteropelvic junction (UPJ). This can result in swelling of the kidney, flank pain, and infections. When diagnosed, the treatment of choice is a pyeloplasty, which involves opening the obstructed ureter and reconstructing it to allow for improved drainage. This surgery can be done through the abdomen or through the back.
Robotic surgery allows for ease of access to the entire ureter from its origin in the kidney down to its insertion into the bladder. A variety of ureteral procedures can be done for both scarring in the ureter and for tumors in the ureter including robotic pyeloplasty, robotic ureteral reimplant, robotic segmental ureterectomy, and robotic ureteroplasty.
Robotic prostatectomy is performed for both prostate cancer and enlarged prostates causing difficulty urinating or urinary retention. These surgeries are performed to optimize erectile function and urinary continence after.
