Dr. Shirin Razdan is widely recognized for her extensive experience in performing reconstructions of the urinary tract. Her ground-breaking clinical research has been published in renowned urological journals that include some of the largest and most respected in the world.
Some patients are born with blockage within the ureter tube, which restricts the kidney from draining urine (the image on the right is of a patient with the said condition). In some cases, patients suffer from urinary tract conditions due to an injury to the ureter during gynecologic or colon surgery. Sometimes, the ureter experiences scarring due to a stone or surgery for stone removal. Apart from treating these conditions, Dr. Shirin Razdan has valuable experience and expertise in repairing almost all types of urinary obstruction. She uses the most advanced and proven minimally invasive technology for treating this condition.
What is Robotic Ureteral Reconstruction?
The ureter is responsible for allowing urine (produced by the kidney) to enter the bladder while preventing it from flowing back up into the kidney. However, sometimes the ureter may experience blockage due to issues such as scar tissue, cancer, or other causes. Sometimes, the kinking and blockage are caused by an external issue (outside of the tube). Certain parts of the ureter may fail to function normally (move the urine along).
Most issues related to the urinary tract can be detected by radiographic studies such as ultrasound, CT scans, MRIs, etc., which are performed initially to determine the exact location of the narrowing and the functional implications of the obstruction.
